Bates completes first of 4 marathons

We have come to catch up with local estate agent Ian of Bates & Co to see how his attempt at raising money for the Slide Away charity is progressing and how he is feeling after completing the first of his three half marathons. Before running in Brighton’s first full marathon on the 18th April.

Morning Ian and let us begin by asking whether you ran and completed the Brighton ½ marathon? Well thank you for coming to chat to me today and giving me the opportunity to raise the profile for the Slide Away charity. To answer your question, yes I did finish and despite my children’s questions around weather I won and is coming 429th really any good I am more than happy with how the training is going.

Last time we spoke you mentioned how being a father helped you in making the decision to support this charity. What do you feel the money raised will be able to do for them?
I know that they secured Lottery funding and I thought that this would mean all their fund raising worries would be over. What this has really meant is though they can increase their team of paid employees, they still very much rely on the good will and generosity of the public and volunteers.

For those who don’t know about the Slide Away charity, they work with children? Yes that is right. They do a lot of wonderful work around building children’s confidence after bereavement with innovative counseling. 

Ian how did you celebrate your first of four runs yesterday. I should say a wonderful diet of pasta and orange juice but I am afraid I was a little less healthy than that.
