Brighton Marathon -Slide Away childrens charity delighted

We have come today to chat to Ian Bates of Bates & Co who has just completed his charity marathon fundraising by running 3 ½ marathons including Eastbourne and then last Sunday running the first full inaugural Brighton Marathon.

Morning Ian and may I say from all at the Property Today well done on completing the 26.2 miles for the Slide Away charity. Two days post the event how are you feeling? I would like to say pain free and ready to go again but in truth I will need a few more days yet until I think about running again. Saying that having young boys I have already been thrashed at garden football with them taking great pleasure out of my new hopping run., not a good look.

Have you spoken to the charity since the race? Yes I got a wonderful text just before the race and emails and a phone call since. For all those that sponsored me and other charities on the day I know it is very much appreciated. Can you remind us why you chose this charity?

Ian comments “Every 20 minutes a child in the UK loses a parent and those children’s lives will change so dramatically because of their lose. All charities need help and support but I was particularly touched by the effort of these volunteers.”

This was the first ever Brighton marathon so tell us about the day.

The conditions were perfect with Steve Ovette starting the race. I have never run a marathon before but from my point of view it was superbly organised with amazing support from the crowd. It is reported to be the 2nd largest marathon in Brighton and the spectators where just amazing. To see my children at the 20 and 23 mile point was an incredible boost as was the crowd over the last 3 miles cheering everyone on.
